So… one thing that can sadly be expensive in Kenya is cheese. We have been provided a discounted way to get cheese, but it can still be expensive. Below were block cheeses we recently purchased to sample before making a commitment to any larger cheese amounts. We have sampled the Gouda and found it VERY tasty.
Cheddar Cheese: About $4.75 for about 8 oz.
Feta Cheese: About $4.00 for about 6 1/3 oz.
Gouda Cheese: About $3.75 for about 7 oz.
Mozzarella Cheese: About $3.25 for about 7 oz.
Paneer Cheese: About $3.75 for a little under 9 oz.
Parmesan (aged 2 years – couldn’t get younger): About $8.75 for about 7 oz.
US costs for similar:
~$2.50 for 8 oz Cheddar and Mozzarella (Kraft)
The other four are not as easy to come by in the States and it can be seen in the cost.
~$5.00 for 8 oz Feta – close to the same!
~$5.50 for 7 oz Gouda – cheaper here!
Couldn’t find Paneer Cheese
~$5.00 for 8 oz Parmesan (aged 18 months)
So, if you come to visit, we would love some Cheddar or Parmesan cheese. 🙂
